Booking & Pricing
How much does the Via Ferrata Piva tour cost?
The price is €70 per person for groups of 3 or more. For smaller groups there is a minimum tour cost of €150 (so 1 person is €150 total and 2 people are €80 each). Special discounts are available for groups of 8 or more. The price includes all safety equipment and an expert guide.
How do I book a Via Ferrata Piva tour?
You can book directly through the form on our website, by WhatsApp, email or Instagram. We confirm availability within 24 hours. We recommend booking in advance, especially in the summer season.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your tour. If the weather is unsafe, we will reschedule your climb or arrange an alternative.
What happens if nobody else books on my date?
The €70 per-person rate applies to groups of 3 or more. If no one else joins your chosen date, we can either proceed at the €150 minimum tour cost or reschedule you to another day with more participants — whichever you prefer.
Safety & Requirements
Do I need climbing experience to do the Via Ferrata Piva?
No previous climbing experience is required. The Via Ferrata Piva is beginner-friendly, and your certified guide gives a full safety briefing and technique demonstration before you start. You only need moderate fitness, sure footing and a reasonable head for heights.
Is via ferrata safe?
Yes, when done with certified equipment and a qualified guide. You are attached to a continuous steel cable the entire way using an EN 958 via ferrata set with an energy absorber. The cardinal rule is that at least one carabiner is always clipped to the cable. The main hazard is weather, so we never run the route in thunderstorms.
What are the age and weight limits?
The tour is suitable for ages 12 to 60 and a maximum weight of 120 kg. The 120 kg limit comes from the certification range of the via ferrata equipment (EN 958 sets are rated for roughly 40–120 kg).
How fit do I need to be?
Moderate fitness is enough. If you can comfortably walk on uneven ground and climb a ladder, you can do the Via Ferrata Piva. It is steep and exciting but does not require any technical climbing moves.
What safety equipment is provided?
Everything technical is included: a certified climbing helmet, harness, gloves and a via ferrata set (the Y-shaped lanyard with an energy absorber and two auto-locking carabiners). You just need suitable clothing and footwear.
The Experience
How long does the Via Ferrata Piva take?
The guided tour takes about 2 to 3 hours, including the safety briefing, equipment fitting, the route itself and photo stops.
How difficult is the route?
It is graded beginner-friendly (around grade B/C). The highlight is a roughly 80-metre vertical rock face with one slightly overhanging section, but there are continuous fixed aids — cable, iron rungs and steps — the whole way.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear sturdy hiking boots or approach shoes and comfortable, flexible clothing in layers (avoid cotton). Bring water, snacks, sun protection and a small backpack. All technical equipment is provided.
When is the best time to do the Via Ferrata Piva?
The season runs roughly from May to October. Late spring and September–October offer the most comfortable temperatures and fewest crowds; in mid-summer an early-morning start avoids the midday heat.
Getting There & Around
Where is the Via Ferrata Piva located?
It is in the Piva Canyon near the town of Plužine in north-western Montenegro. We provide the exact GPS meeting point when you book.
How do I get to Piva Canyon?
Plužine is about 50 minutes from Žabljak, 1–1.5 hours from Nikšić, around 2 hours from Podgorica, and roughly 2.5–2.75 hours from Kotor or Dubrovnik. A car or private transfer is the easiest way to arrive, as public transport is limited.
What else can I do near the Piva Canyon?
Plenty — kayaking on Piva Lake, the dramatic canyon tunnel road, Durmitor National Park and its Black Lake, white-water rafting on the Tara River, the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, sport climbing near Plužine and canyoning in the nearby Nevidio gorge.
